A wealthy cigarette manufacturer by the name of Abbot Kinney had a dream. Together with his three parters they had purchased the land south of Santa Monica in 1895. The area were attracting lots of visitors because of the mild winter climate and Kinney and his partners had built a golf course, club house, tennis courts, a fishing pier and a board walk to attract visitors and land buyers. But they were having conflicting visions on how to develop the modest seaside resort built at the foot of Pier Avenue.
